Former State Senator Art Helton Endorses Gansler for Governor

HARFORD COUNTY, Md. — Former state Senator Art Helton today announced his endorsement of former Attorney General Doug Gansler and former Hyattsville Mayor Candace Hollingsworth for governor and lieutenant governor of Maryland.

“As Attorney General and Montgomery County State’s Attorney, Doug proved to us all that he has what it takes to keep people safe,” said Helton. “No other candidate has his proven record when it comes to public safety. Voters who are worried about crime should trust Doug and Candace to keep Bel Air, Havre de Grace and all of Harford County safe and to do so in a way that is fair and just.”

Helton added, “As a businessman in the real estate industry, I’ve grown increasingly concerned about reckless, over-development in our communities. Take Perryman Peninsula — a mega-warehouse could be built in the middle of acres of farmland. Developments like this hurt our environment and make our communities less livable. Doug was the ‘Environmentalist Attorney General,’ and I know that he is more than committed to tackling the state’s need for more affordable housing through Smart Growth principles. He will even impose a moratorium on new development within the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area to make sure no land is unnecessarily lost to private development.”

“We are honored to receive the endorsement of my dear friend Art Helton,” said Gansler. “Marylanders are in need of smart, sustainable and safe housing options, which Art has dedicated his career to providing. He’s a phenomenal businessman whose company has created jobs and housing for countless Harford County residents. Even better, Art always respected the environment by renovating existing properties instead of developing new buildings.”
