Gansler and Hollingsworth React to Biden’s Expected SCOTUS Pick of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. – Former Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler and former Hyattsville Mayor Candace Hollingsworth today issued the following statements in response to President Biden’s expected choice of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson for the U.S. Supreme Court:

“This is big news and a great pick by the President,” said Gansler. “Judge Jackson has distinguished herself on the D.C. Circuit as a smart constitutional jurist worthy of our top bench. She has advanced justice by representing people who could not afford an attorney and by holding Donald Trump and his administration accountable multiple times. For example, she famously wrote that ‘presidents are not kings’ and blocked Trump’s attempt to hide records from the January 6th Committee. Judge Jackson has proven her commitment to justice over the course of her career, and I look forward to her many decades of service on the Supreme Court.”

“Black women add value to any space we enter,” said Hollingsworth. “Whether Judge Jackson will agree with me in all matters is irrelevant. I am confident that her background, life experience, and most importantly, her expertise will help bend justice for those of us who need it most. I commend President Biden on delivering on his promise to nominate a Black woman to our nation’s highest court, and I look forward to watching her confirmation with my daughter.”
