Gansler and Hollingsworth React to Confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. – Former Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler and former Hyattsville Mayor Candace Hollingsworth today issued the following statements in response to the confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court of the United States:

“What a monumental moment in U.S. history to have a Black woman confirmed as the 116th Associate Justice on the Supreme Court,” said Gansler. “Judge Jackson is more than qualified for the position. During her tenure on the D.C. Circuit, Judge Jackson consistently proved she will advance justice for everyone, including those in underrepresented communities. She recognizes that safety and justice are not abstract concepts and has continuously worked to uphold both in her rulings. I don’t think President Biden could have selected a better judge for the position.”

“It is an honor to watch the first Black woman be confirmed to our nation’s highest court,” said Hollingsworth. “Judge Jackson has the expertise and background it takes to excel in this role, and her credentials under President Biden and President Obama are unmatched. As a former public defender, she will bring an empathetic, nondiscriminatory lens to the Supreme Court. I look forward to the fair and impartial rulings that she will deliver in all cases brought before her.”
