New Goucher Poll Shows Crime and Public Safety the Top Issue for Marylanders

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. – The Gansler-Hollingsworth campaign today issued the following statement on a new poll from Goucher College that showed that Marylanders identified crime and public safety as the #1 issue they want the state government to focus on:

“Former Attorney General Doug Gansler is the only candidate in the race with a background in prosecuting violent crime, and he is uniquely qualified in this large field to keep Marylanders safe,” said former Hyattsville Mayor and Lt. Governor candidate Candace Hollingsworth. “From serving as a federal prosecutor under Eric Holder to prosecuting the Beltway Snipers as Montgomery County State’s Attorney, Doug has a proven record of protecting our communities. Furthermore, during his 22-years successfully prosecuting criminals, Doug brought innovative solutions to crime. He established the first drug and domestic violence courts in the state and was the first office in the country to fully implement community prosecution. With violent crime a threat to many neighborhoods across the state, it is clear Marylanders need a leader like Doug Gansler to vigilantly protect our families and to do so in a way that is fair and just. The Gansler-Hollingsworth ticket is the right team for this moment, and we can’t wait to get to work.”
